You might see a lot of German shepherds in the stands at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday watching the Eagles take on the Vikings in the NFC championship game.
Following Saturday's 15-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons, offensive lineman Lane Johnson and defensive lineman Chris Long both walked off the field wearing dog masks as a nod to the team's status as the first No.1 seed to be an underdog in its first postseason game.
And many fans are apparently picking up their own underdog masks.
"Me and Chris Long were talking [at lunch], and everybody's calling us underdogs, so, hey, let's go get us a dog mask," Johnson told reporters following the game. "That's what we did."
Photos and videos of Johnson donning the latex mask quickly went viral, and after Long revealed the players had purchased the masks on Amazon for just $10.99, fans rushed the online retailer, which is now sold out.
Amazon promotes the mask as "suitable for Easter, Carnival, Halloween, Christmas, Masquerade Parties, Costume Parties or any other parties." At this point, the site should add, "Eagles upsets."
No word from Amazon on whether more masks will be in stock in time for Sunday's game.
Once again, despite playing at home, the Eagles are underdogs. The Vikings, buoyed by their "walk-off" touchdown dubbed "the Minnesota Miracle" by Vikings radio announcer Paul Allen, open as 3-point favorites coming into the Linc.
As my colleague Ed Barkowitz points out, the Vikings are just the ninth road team to be favored in a conference championship since 1990. In 2008, the Eagles were a 3.5-point favorite over the Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game at University of Phoenix Stadium, but lost to Arizona 32-25.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Eagles have been home underdogs four times in the Super Bowl era. They've won all four games.
Fans desperate to attend Sunday's game underneath a latex dog mask are in luck — a similar version of the German Shepherd mask, sold by a company appropriately called CreepyParty, is still available, although for a slightly more expensive $24.99.
If you plan on attending Sunday's game donning a dog mask, just make sure you take it off as you get close to security.
