CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The national anthem was sung without controversy Thursday night before the Eagles played the host Carolina Panthers.

The Bank of America Stadium crowd seemed to take no notice of Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins thrusting his right fist in the air, as he has done since last season, in an effort to bring attention to problems related to race and policing. As usual, safety Rodney McLeod joined Jenkins, and defensive end Chris Long placed his hand on Jenkins' shoulder.

No Panthers players engaged in any visible form of protest.

The league and players association officials are scheduled to sit down next week at an owners' meeting to discuss protests during the anthem. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell dismissed a tweet from President Trump alleging that Goodell was "finally demanding that all players stand."
