The Eagles are expected to sign free-agent Broncos linebacker Corey Nelson to a one-year deal, a league source said. ESPN first reported the news.

Nelson, 25, started five games in four seasons for the Broncos. He was mostly a special teams contributor and a role player on defense. A 2014 seventh-round pick, Nelson was limited to five games last season because of an elbow injury. He played only 44 defensive snaps. He has 88 career tackles and 18 special-teams tackles.

Nelson, who is 6-foot-1 and 236 pounds, would joins an Eagles linebacker group that has a lot of questions. Nigel Bradham is a free agent, and Jordan Hicks is recovering from injury. The Denver Post reported that the Broncos matched the Eagles' offer, but Nelson wanted a bigger role on defense. The Eagles are also committed to improving their special teams this offseason, and Nelson can help in that area.
