Defenseman Samuel Morin was supposed to replace the injured Shayne Gostisbehere in the Flyers' lineup Monday night against visiting Arizona, but the big defenseman has a nagging injury and probably won't be at the Wells Fargo Center, general manager Ron Hextall said.

After Monday's morning skate, Hextall said he expected to recall Mark Alt for the game.

Hextall also said Gostisbehere and Nolan Patrick were day to day. They are believed to be sidelined with concussion-like symptoms, though the Flyers will only say they have "upper-body injuries."

Morin apparently suffered a minor injury in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Hartford, Hextall said. He had been dominating AHL games.

The right-handed-shooting Alt, a 6-foot-4, 201-pounder whose father, John, once was a star offensive tackle with the Kansas City Chiefs, had two goals, four assists and a plus-four rating in 10 games with the AHL's Phantoms this season.

Alt, 26, was selected by Carolina in the second round of the 2010 draft. He played in one game with the Flyers in 2014-15, and is expected to be one of three rookie D-men in the lineup tonight, joining Robert Hagg and Travis Saneheim.

Coach Dave Hakstol liked what he saw from Alt in training camp.

"Altsy moves very well," Hakstol said. "He's a good, solid two-way guy. That's what he prides his game on; he moves the puck pretty well and makes the first pass. Big, strong presence. And he's a guy who has put his time in. He's been at the American League level and has played very well."

Here are the projected parings for Monday:

  1. Ivan Provorov and Hagg.

  2. Sanheim and Radko Gudas.

  3. Brandon Manning and Alt.

Brian Elliott, coming off a 4-2 win in Toronto on Saturday, will be in the nets for the Flyers (6-5).

Arizona, coached by Rick Tocchet, is 0-10-1.

"The team we're playing against tonight deserved a better fate in their last few games," Hakstol said. "They've played very well. We have our own things we're focusing on as a team that we need to and want to improve."
