The Flyers on Monday demoted rookie defenseman Travis Sanheim to the AHL's Phantoms and recalled Mark Alt from the same club.

Sanheim, 21, was a healthy scratch in eight of the last nine games, and the Flyers want him playing. In 35 games, Sanheim had a goal, five points, and a team-worst minus-10 rating.

Alt will be with the Flyers on Tuesday in Detroit and figures to be their seventh defenseman. Alt played well in eight games with the Flyers earlier this season. He had no points and an even rating, and was a reliable stay-at-home defender.

With the Phantoms this season, he had 10 points (five goals, five assists) and a plus-9 rating in 23 games.
