Sportsbetting: Las Vegas not optimistic Flyers will end Stanley Cup drought

The Lightning and the Maple Leafs on the other hand …

The site of Jake Guentzel scoring four goals in the elimination game against the Penguins is probably part of the reason the Flyers are 30-1 to win the 2018-19 Stanley Cup.

Will the Flyers make the playoffs? Probably.

Win the division? Possibly.

Win the Stanley Cup? Unlikely.

At least that's the call from Vegas.

Westgate SuperBook, the largest sportsbook in Nevada, likes the Flyers' chances to make it to the playoffs following the upcoming regular season. But raising the Stanley Cup is another matter.

In odds posted Tuesday, Westgate opened the Flyers at -$300 to make the postseason. A bettor who thinks Philadelphia will make it to the postseason must wager $300 to win $100. Those who bet the Flyers will not make the postseason would win $240 for every $100 wagered.

The heaviest favorites to make the postseason are Tampa Bay, Toronto and Winnipeg each at -$800. Ottawa is the longest shot for the playoffs at +$900.

Bookmakers got a scare last season when the Vegas Golden Knights put together the greatest inaugural season in major sports history and made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. The expansion Knights opened at 500-1 last year. This year, Westgate opened them at 12-1.

The SuperBook has the Flyers' over/under point total at 97.5. They had 98 last season.

The Flyers are 7-2 to win the Atlantic Division, 15-1 to win the Eastern Conference and 30-1 to win the Stanley Cup that has eluded them for 43 years now. Somewhere, late team founder Ed Snider just kicked over a chair.

If past practice is any indication, similar odds will be available at New Jersey's sportsbooks shortly.

Tampa Bay (7-1), Toronto (8-1), Boston (10-1), Nashville (10-1), defending-champ Washington (10-1) and Winnipeg (10-1) are at the top of Westgate's board to win the 2018-19 Stanley Cup.
