The Devon Prep boys' soccer team made history Wednesday as the Tide defeated Archbishop Ryan, 2-0, to win their first-ever Catholic League match. Nick Bello and Alex Hardie provided the goals for Devon Prep in the historic win.

Moving from the Bicentennial League last year, the Tide knew they were in for a challenge entering a competitive conference. But second year coach Brian McKinney said his team rose to the occasion.

"The boys really didn't know what to expect [coming into the season]," McKinney said. "They were a little nervous, but they didn't show it. I can't put into words how happy we are."

McKinney believes the Catholic League and his program will be a perfect match going forward.

"I thought it would be great for the school," he said. "I thought it would match our values with Devon Prep being a Catholic school. It brings a certain kind of notoriety to the school and the league has history. It puts our school in a positive light."

The Tide will look to go 2-0 in league play against Father Judge on Friday.
