Germantown Academy held off host Father Judge, 31-21, Friday night thanks in part to a huge night from junior running back Trae Vance.

Vance, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound power back with enough wiggle to break free and the speed to find open field, finished with 175 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.

The Patriots (3-0) remained undefeated despite falling behind early.

Shane Dooley, a senior dual-threat quarterback, led the Crusaders (1-2) with 263 yards on 18-of-29 passing with a touchdown in the air. The 6-foot-1, 206-pounder also added 97 yards and two scores on the ground on just 15 carries.

Dooley (below) helped Judge to a 7-0 lead in the second quarter after hitting Kevin Kelly for 22 yards with 11 minutes, 50 seconds left in the half.

Jordan Longino (below) responded for the Patriots with a 32-yard scoring pass to Jerry Griffen-Batchler, who did most of the work, squirting through defenders before streaking down the right sideline.

The sophomore quarterback finished with 91 yards passing and 30 more on the ground. He also finished 7-of-8 passing and led the Patriots to a 21-14 edge by intermission.

Defensively, senior Duke recruit Elijah Wroten (No. 65 below), fellow senior Jack Sheridan and junior Hans Lillis made life difficult for Dooley.

Wroten also led the offensive line, which, with the help of Vance, seemed to wear down the Judge defense late in the game.

Vance (below) was hampered by a sprained ankle and broken collarbone last season and couldn't wait to rebound this year.

"Honestly, this feels great," he said. "I feel like this year our team really bonded like a family like no other team [since I've been here]. This win, knowing I was able to play with them, it feels great."

His 11-yard score late in the fourth quarter (below) put the Crusaders away for good.
