Friday's S.J. roundup: Woodbury girls' basketball overcome 13-point halftime deficit

The Woodbury girls' basketball team came back from a 13-point halftime deficit Friday to advance to the South Group 1 final with a 47-46 triumph over Gloucester. After a tie score at the end of the first quarter, the Thundering Herd were outscored 13-0 in the second quarter to trail 26-13. Kayla Rone led the victors with 21 points, while Barrique Smith added 12. No. 6 seed Woodbury, who has won two straight games by a point, will play top-seeded Haddon Township in Monday's final.

In the other semifinal, Madison Bradley scored 11 points in Haddon Township's 47-17 win over Palmyra. Karlee Hart had nine points for the Hawks.

Boys' Basketball

Charles Solomon's free throw with six seconds remaining lifted St. Augustine over Paul VI, 62-61, in the South Non-Public A quarterfinals. Solomon finished with a team-high 22 points while Marlon Hargis pitched in 11 points for the Hermits. Wisely Sannon led all scorers with 24 points. St. Augustine will play Monday against Camden Catholic in the semifinals.

Nizair Scott scored a game-high 16 points as Glamssboro defeated Paulsboro, 53-40, in the South Group 1 semifinals. Kyree Myers and Anthony Mitchell contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Glamssboro will play Woodbury in Tuesday's championship game.

Josh Jackson's 19 points wasn't enough as Northern Burlington fell to Nottingham, 73-57, in the Central Group 3 semifinals.

Michael Ginyard finished with 20 points as Seneca knocked off Ocean City, 59-52, in the South Group 3 semifinals. Johnny Kennevan added 15 points for the Golden Eagles, who will play Delsea in Tuesday's title game.
