The Walnut Street Theatre held its annual gala concert, Comedy Tonight, on May 5. The Walnut Street Theatre is the oldest in the United States. More than 750 attendees enjoyed the one-night-only performances by local actors. Guests received a glass of wine to enjoy during the concert and were then treated to a 90-minute performance with Broadway tunes, followed by a VIP party on the Thomas Jefferson University Campus in the Jefferson Alumni Hall Atrium. The theater honored trustee Denise D. Hodgson with the 2017 Edwin Forrest Award. The $175,000 in proceeds from the gala will benefit the theater's award-winning education and outreach programming, which has grown to serve more than 172,000 students, teachers, and families annually in the region.
