Democrat Brendan Boyle of Northeast Philadelphia was re-elected to the U.S. House Tuesday, overwhelmingly defeating Republican challenger David Torres.

Boyle, who was first elected to Congress in 2014, will be serving a redrawn district that consists of Northeast Philadelphia and the river wards, including Northern Liberties, Kensington, and Fishtown.

Pennsylvania's entire congressional map was reconfigured after the state Supreme Courts struck down the old map as having been unconstitutionally gerrymandered to favor Republicans. Formerly, Boyle's district was split between Philadelphia and Montgomery counties.

Boyle, a former state representative, had handily won the Democratic primary against bank executive Michele Lawrence.
