The Episcopal Academy boys' squash team beat Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 5-4, Tuesday to win the Inter-Academic League title for the first time since 2012.

"I am so proud of the boys for winning the Inter-Ac! It's great to see all of their hard work pay off," said head coach J.R. Russell.

Episcopal received wins from Eric Kim, Declan McCarthy, Gio Matarazzo, Shaam Gambhir and Billy Stavropoulos. Tom Hogan, Nikhil Kakarla, Sameer Saxena, and Neil Bam all played well despite losing their matches, the coach said.

"It's great to see the Inter-Ac [title] come back to EA and hopefully stay here," said Kim, a co-captain. "After playing on the team for five years and losing to Haverford School and SCH every year for four years, it's exciting to finally get some results and end that streak in my senior year."

The team defeated Haverford School, last year's high school nationals champions, earlier in the season. Winning the Inter-Ac and beating Haverford School and SCH were huge accomplishment for the seniors.

"It has been so long since we have done all three," said McCarthy.

The team now has its sights on the upcoming  Mid Atlantic Squash Association tournament and high school national tournament.

"We will try to improve on what we've been able to accomplish this year," Kim said. "In the four years that I've been to high school nationals, the highest we've finished has been seventh place, and I think that with this team this year we have a chance to finish in the top four in the country."
