Grading the Eagles: Run game, pass defense earn 'D' grades in loss to Cowboys | Paul Domowitch

The Eagles forced three turnovers out of Dak Prescott, including a pair of interceptions. But their injury-ravaged secondary also got burned for three passing TDs.

The Eagles lost to the Cowboys, 29-23, in overtime on Sunday.

RUSHING OFFENSE

Josh Adams rushed for 30 yards on three carries on the Eagles’ first possession, but touched the ball just four more times the rest of the game. So much for a commitment to the run. The Eagles finished with just 34 yards on 14 carries.

GRADE: D

PASSING OFFENSE

Carson Wentz had a strong fourth quarter, completing 10 of 14 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. But he wasn’t very sharp before that. He completed just one of six third-down attempts and had just 48 passing yards in the first half. The passing game didn’t really get rolling until the Eagles went to more 12 personnel in the fourth quarter and rookie tight end Dallas Goedert became a factor.

RUN DEFENSE

The Eagles had problems stopping Ezekiel Elliott in the first half (72 yards on 11 carries), but did a much better job on him in the second half, holding him to 2.4 yards a carry.

PASS DEFENSE

Dak Prescott threw for 455 yards and three touchdowns, but also turned the ball over three times, including a pair of interceptions. The Eagles’ depleted secondary couldn’t stop Amari Cooper, who had 10 catches for 217 yards and all three touchdowns.

GRADE: D

SPECIAL TEAMS

Jake Elliott had a costly missed PAT after the Eagles' first touchdown, which ultimately ended up biting the Eagles in the butt. Corey Clement had a 36-yard kickoff return late in the first quarter that the Eagles’ offense squandered.

GRADE: C-minus

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

The Eagles once again were unable to get off to a fast start. They were shut out in the first half and had just four first downs and ran just 17 plays in the first two quarters. They were inept on third down, converting just one of nine opportunities in the game.
