Campus Apartments has begun work on a 23-suite student-focused housing development at the corner of 41st and Sansom Streets.

The five-story structure at 123 S. 41st St. will be the University City-based company's first newly built student accommodations in the West Philadelphia college district, Campus Apartments chief executive David Adelman said in an interview Wednesday.

The $16 million project, which is scheduled for completion in August 2018, will accommodate 100 residents, Campus Apartments said in a release.

While Campus Apartments has developed new college housing nationwide and owns properties across University City that it has converted into student units, it has not before built anything there from the ground up, Adelman said.

The company did previously develop a University City hotel — the Homewood Suites at 4109 Walnut St. – and has built student housing for Saint Joseph's University.
