On the market: A house in Haverford that’s grown to 6,200 square feet

"All we did for 22 years was remodel, so it's been a work in progress" the owner says. "It was really a teardown so we had to start pretty much from scratch."

When Krys Fox was on the market for a new home, one major detail appealed to her about Avonwood Lodge, a six-bedroom estate in Haverford: "The setting impressed me the most," she said.

The home is situated on more than an acre of woods, opposite the Brentford Gates. It is also bounded by a stream called Trout Run.

Fox said the views contribute to her favorite part of the home — the large family room with French doors that open to a blue stone patio.

"You can see the whole backyard," she said. "It's just a beautiful place to sit and read a book or watch TV."

Fox and her family have lived in there since purchasing the home in 1995. The intervening years have been spent doing quite a bit of redecorating, she said.

"All we did for 22 years was remodel, so it's been a work in progress" she said. "It was really a teardown so we had to start pretty much from scratch."

The renovations have included a new kitchen, new bathrooms, a new pool, and a 3,000-square-foot addition.

"We renovated everything at least once," she said.

The addition made enough space for a a three-car garage, a mudroom, two offices, a bathroom and three new bedrooms. It also added room for the family room Fox loves so much today.

"It kind of doubled the size of the house," she said.

The home, which is now nearly 6,200 square feet, has plenty of entertaining space as well. Fox said the family would regularly host up to 18 overnight guests for holidays.

"It's a beautiful house," she said. "Because we lived there so long, there's just so many memories."

Fox, who is a Realtor, said the family decided to list the home for sale after buying a property directly behind her eldest daughter, who lives in Villanova.

"Our backyards back up to each other," Fox said. "We can walk over to see our grandson."

The home is listed with Fox at Keller Williams for $1,499,000.
