The rush to open sportsbooks in Atlantic City is starting to resemble the beginning of a 100-meter dash.

Instead of a starting gun, it's football season that has ignited the sprint.

The Golden Nugget will open for sports betting on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. Ninety minutes later, Resorts Casino raises its window.

This makes six of the eight planned sportsbooks that will be open. Three are in the marina district (Borgata, Golden Nugget, Harrah's) and three are on the boardwalk (Bally's, Ocean Resort, Resorts). The Hard Rock and Tropicana are still works in progress.

The Golden Nugget will be prohibited from taking NBA action because owner Tilman Fertitta also owns the Houston Rockets.

The NFL's preseason continues Thursday and the regular season begins Sept. 6 when the Eagles host the Falcons. College football opens Aug. 25 with a four games, most notably Hawaii at Colorado State.
