Teacher at South Jersey special-ed school charged with hit-and-run

A teacher at a Gloucester County school for students with developmental and learning disabilities was charged Sunday in connection with the death of a woman hit by a car while walking on Route 42.

Nicholas Jahn, 34, of Washington Township, is accused of falling asleep while driving and hitting Jawana Wilcox, 44, as she walked with a suitcase to a bus stop bear the Golden Luck Motel in Washington Township about 3:20 a.m. Saturday, law enforcement reported.

Wilcox, who authorities said lived in South Jersey, was hit while walking on the road's southbound shoulder near Ganttown Road. Jahn, a teacher at the Durand Academy in Woodbury, is accused of then driving away in his Honda Pilot, law enforcement reported.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office charged Jahn with second-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and third-degree endangering a victim.

A person staying at the Golden Luck Hotel found Wilcox. Jahn was arrested at his home Saturday afternoon and was being held at Gloucester County Jail.
