A World Champions Eagles mural is finishing up in Center City. Are others to come?

Next time you find yourself in Center City, look up. There's a brand new reminder of Philadelphia's first-ever Super Bowl win that happens to coincide with the start of football season.

Meg Saligman — a lifelong Eagles fan — is the artist whose Bella Vista studio launched a crowdfunding campaign to turn a 25-square-foot mural of an eagle gripping the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady into a permanent, larger-than-life version. Her team is now putting the finishing touches on a commemorative "World Champions" mural that shows an Eagle gripping the Lombardi Trophy in its talons and a midnight green flag billowing behind.

"I guess there's a little piece of history with that Tom Brady there, but to memorialize the opponent for perpetuity seems a little pointless," she said.

The 2,500 square foot mural, titled "Bringing it Home," is on the Hale Building at Chestnut and Juniper Streets.  The best view of it is on Broad Street looking down Sansom toward Juniper. Saligman's studio began painting the image last week and expects to be "majorly completed" by Thursday, just in time for the Eagles' season opener against the Falcons, Billy Penn first reported last week.

"There are two sports bars right below the mural," she said. "You could see it from the next Super Bowl parade and night on Broad Street, it'll be right there in the middle of the city."

The mural was made possible via crowdfunding and sponsorships from the Philadelphia Eagles and Axalta Coating Systems, who provided the paint, Saligman said.

"We are excited that our paint can be part of a mural that the great City of Philadelphia can be proud of and enjoy for many years to come," Rob Ferris, an Axalta spokesman, said in a statement.  "We're looking forward to another great season. Fly Eagles Fly!"

Saligman's tribute isn't the only one of its kind. A Super Bowl mural was dedicated outside Spike's Trophies in the Northeast back in May, while The Palm on Broad and Walnut Streets is getting a similar one this week, Eater Philly reported.

Elizabeth Fiedler, Democratic primary candidate for the state House, spotted a mural in the making commemorating the Philly Special in Pennsport on Tuesday.

And just on Monday, Eagles defensive end Chris Long tweeted a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for a Beau Allen mural in South Philadelphia. Allen, formerly with the Eagles, signed to play with Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The campaign had raised $500 of its $21,000 goal by Tuesday afternoon.

Saligman is behind a handful of murals found around the city, including Common Threads on Broad and Spring Garden Streets and Philadelphia Muses at 13th and Locusts Streets. Though, the new Center City mural tipping a hat to the 2018 World Champions was a bit different from her previous projects.

"I guess there's a sense of pride and honor in being associated with this cool thing that happened in Philly last year," she said. "It's a ton of fun."
