Two Bucks County schools that closed Thursday due to a gas leak will reopen for students and faculty Friday.
Holicong Middle School and Central Bucks High School East, located adjacent to each other along Holicong Road in Doylestown, closed after the leak was discovered at the high school around 5:40 a.m., Central Bucks School District said in an update Thursday afternoon.
Holicong was closed out of "an abundance of caution," the district said. PECO and fire crews were called to the scene.
Repairs to the leak, found to be coming from "a small line that feeds HVAC systems on the roof of the building," is underway.
"We appreciate the support of our families, as this morning's building closure took place while staff and students were already in route to school. We moved quickly to notify families, however, we know the timing was inconvenient," Central Bucks School District Superintendent John Kopicki said. "We are relieved that the matter is well in hand thanks to the quick work of our buildings and grounds staff. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority at all times."
The district will send more information when repairs are finished.
