Temple football notes: A big day for Rock Ya-Sin against a fellow NFL prospect in ECU’s Trevon Brown

Three NFL teams were represented at Temple's 49-6 win  over East Carolina on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field, and no doubt there was great interest in the matchup between Owls cornerback Rock Ya-Sin and ECU receiver Trevon Brown.

Both are considered NFL prospects. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Brown entered the game with 21 receptions for 325 yards and two touchdowns. While the Owls rotated several corners, Ya-Sin (6-2, 190) was on Brown most of the time.

Brown didn't have a catch in the first half and ended with two receptions for 22 yards, one against Ya-Sin.

Asked whether he gets up more for playing marquee players, Ya-Sin was candid.

"Honestly, I do," said Ya-Sin, who broke up three passes and made three tackles. "I like the challenge."

Ya-Sin credited head coach Geoff Collins and the defensive staff with coming up with a strong game plan.

"We executed a great game plan," he said. "We played man to man on him most of the day."

Junior placekicker Aaron Boumerhi, who was sidelined by a hip injury after the second game, has undergone hip surgery.

Asked whether he was out for the season, Collins said, "I imagine so. I can't speak to that too much."

Offensive tackle James McHale, who started the first three games, missed his third straight game because of an unspecified injury. Collins had been hopeful that McHale could play, but he was out and replaced again by freshman Adam Klein.

Defensive end Dana Levine, who has been sidelined by an unspecified injury since the opener against Villanova, returned and played sparingly, recording one tackle.

Redshirt sophomore receiver Freddie Johnson, who is Temple's best special-teams player, didn't play against ECU. Earlier in the week, according to a person familiar with the situation, Johnson quit the team, but he rethought the decision and was accepted back. He missed too many practices, however, for the coaches to use him against ECU.

Collins confirmed he is back on the team but didn't elaborate.
