Saturday's Pa. roundup: Archbishop Wood girls knock off previously-undefeated West Chester Henderson in quarterfinals

Recapping Saturdays top action in the PIAA playoffs.

Katie May and Lindsay Tretter each scored 14 points Saturday to lead the Archbishop Wood girls' basketball team into the PIAA Class 5A semifinals with a 40-35 triumph over previously-undefeated West Chester Henderson. The Warriors' last loss came at the hands of the Vikings in last season's first round of the state playoffs. Archbishop Wood will play the winner of Southern Lehigh and Harrisburg on Tuesday.

In other 5A action, Molly Masciantonio recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as Archbishop Carroll topped Oakland Catholic, 51-32. Erin Sweeney scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and added six rebounds while Harlem Jennings had 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists for the Patriots. Archbishop Carroll will battle the winner of Gateway and Mars on Tuesday.

Maeve McCann had a team-high 10 points Bonner-Prendergast defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 39-31, in the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals. Alexis Gleason and Dakota McCaughan contributed eight and seven points, respectively, for the victors. Kaylie Griffin scored a game-high 17 points for the Monarchs. Bonner-Prendergast will battle the winner of Lancaster Catholic and Scranton Prep on Tuesday.

Grace Gormley scored 16 points as The Christian Academy fell to Lebanon Catholic, 50-33, in the PIAA Class 1A quarterfinals. Alexis Hill and Jasmine Turner each had 14 points for Lebanon Catholic.

In other A action, Jennifer Kremp finished with 16 points as Jenkintown downed Lourdes Regional, 37-31. Amelia Mulvaney and Mia Kolb chipped in nine and eight points, respectively for the Drakes, who will play Lebanon Catholic on Tuesday.

Boys' Basketball

Dymir Montague scored a team-high 16 points as Neumann-Goretti knocked off Catholic League foe Bishop McDevitt, 65-54, to advance to the PIAA Class 3A semifinals. Hakim Byrd, Noah Warren, and Chris Ings all reached double figures for the Saints. Robert Smith Jr. led the Lancers with 18 points. Neumann-Goretti will play Trinity on Tuesday.

Eric Dixon poured in 35 points as Abington fell to Hazleton, 94-86, in the PIAA Class 6A quarterfinals. Robbie Heath added 29 points for the Ghosts, who claimed their sixth straight SOL title and second consecutive District 1 crown this season.

Jabari Merritt posted a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds as Constitution beat Moravian, 83-73, in the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals. Keshawn Hammonds and Jahmir Williams each led the Generals with 21 points, who will play Holy Cross in Tuesday's semifinal.

In other 2A action, Semaj Mills led Math, Civics and Sciences with 21 points, but the Elephants lost to Holy Cross, 71-58. Jihad Watson added 14 points in defeat. Holy Cross had four players in double figures, paced by Tyler Mozeleski's 26 points.
